'It was an important match. First, because it was the derby that Milan hadn’t won for a long time. It was also important for the moment we were going through, but I think the players played with a lot of courage and I think we deserved to win,' Milan coach Paulo Fonseca said after the derby win.
Milan started the match best and took the lead when Christian Pulisic netted after 10 minutes, making it 1-0.
'I don’t remember a team in recent times that created as many problems for Inter as we did,' he added following Milan's first derby win after six straight defeats in such games.
Milan emerged victorious in the game on Sunday at Stadio Enzo Ricci against Inter. The Serie A game finished 2-1.
Inter equalised to make it 1-1 after almost half an hour's play as Federico Dimarco found the net, with an assist by Lautaro Martínez.
The deciding goal came when Matteo Gabbia scored for Milan, with an assist by Tijjani Reijnders.
Inter's next Serie A games are against Udinese (away) on 28 September, Inter (home) on 5 October and Roma (away) on 20 October.
Milan play Lecce (home) on 27 September, Fiorentina (away) on 6 October and Udinese (home) on 19 October.
