Juve in search of first two opening victories since 2019/20.
In an exciting Monday night showdown, Verona, buoyed by their impressive start, aim to stun Juventus once again at the Marcantonio Bentegodi, as both teams vie to maintain their winning momentum in the Serie A.
Hellas Verona
Verona got off to an outstanding start with last weekend's 3-0 win over Napoli. A brace from the 24-year-old Colombian forward, Daniel Mosquera, complemented an opener from Dailon Livramento to hand Antonio Conte his first opening day defeat in Serie A.
Verona now aims to build upon that victory as they prepare to host the Old Lady at the Bentegodi in this episode of Monday night football. Having won back-to-back opening games, Verona could achieve two consecutive opening game wins for the first time in club history.
Despite the challenging fixture ahead on Monday night, Paolo Zanetti, who debuted in Serie A with the club last weekend, can draw confidence from his team’s recent home record against Juventus. Verona are unbeaten in eight of their last 10 Serie A home games against Juve, securing three wins and five draws.
Given the success of last weekend's setup, Zanetti will likely retain the 3-4-3 formation with the same players. Dailon Livramento, Casper Tengstedt, and Grigoris Kastanos might lead the attack once again, though Daniel Mosquera, fresh off his brace, is in contention for a starting spot.
Juventus
Just like his counterpart, Thiago Motta made his Serie A managerial debut with an identical 3-0 win over newly promoted Como. Goals from Samuel Mbangula, Timothy Weah, and Andrea Cambiaso helped the Old Lady put the Cesc Fàbregas-led side away.
Following the victory, Juventus were the only side to have three different goal scorers on the opening weekend of the 2024–25 season. With a stern test up next against Roma, Juve will be looking to add three more points to the tally on Monday night when they face Verona.
While playing back-to-back matches on a Monday for the sixth time, a win would leave Juventus with two opening wins for the first time since the 2019/20 season. A 4—2—3—1 formation with Dušan Vlahović in attack is expected.
After last Monday’s victory, Juve added Pierre Kalulu on loan from AC Milan to bolster their defensive options. Meanwhile, Timothy Weah joined the treatment table following a hamstring injury after the 3-0 win over Como and remains ruled out until mid-September.
Vasilije Adžić, Khéphren Thuram, and Fabio Miretti are also sidelined for this clash.
